1/22 Week 1: Introduction to the Language of Film, tour lab and cameras

                  Homework: 10 30-second videos.  Each 30-second video should be one continuous take.

1/29 Week 2: Using sound, in-class work on Sound Story, using a tripod

                  Homework: 5 minute tape where camera doesnÕt move.  More than one shot may be used.

 

2/5 Week 3: Importing videos to Final Cut, Final Cut overview, capturing video and basic editing       with Final Cut

 

2/12 Week 4: In-class workday

                  Demo: burning to DVD, sound editing

 

2/19 Week 5: Introduction to Assignment #3, Demo: split screen, Storyboarding

                  Assignment #Õs 1-2 and Sound Story Due:

            10 30-second videos

            5 minute tape of all still shots

                       

2/26 Week 6: Lab Day, Footage and storyboards due

                  Demo: Titles, Transitions

 

3/5 Week 7: B-Roll Sightlines (3-5 minutes)

 

3/12 Week 8: Introduction to Assignment #4: video as document

 

3/19 Week 9: Demo: motion key frames, importing still images

 

3/26 Week 10: Demo: uploading videos to internet, video compression

 

4/2 Week 11: Critique: News Spot, Final Project proposal due

Extra credit opportunities:

1.  Working as a crew member or Production Assistant on a film in Chicago and either writing a retelling of the experience or turning in an edited video diary.

2.  A 2-3 page response to a video installation seen at a gallery or museum.  How is the sound, lighting, camera angles, movement, and editing used to express ideas and provide a subtext?
